MODERN CRAFT

Vica | furniture by Selldorf ArchitectsI posted some of the work of Selldorf Architects yesterday, but did you get a chance to admire their product line, Vica? The grain of walnut bed is so lovely... the organic curves juxtaposed to the clean lines of the bed frame... love it.

Oh, don't forget that the succulent note card giveaway ends Thursday!

LA08

dwell on design | los angeles 2008I'm excited to be pacing the exhibitor aisles at Dwell on Design | Los Angeles this weekend. I unfortunately was unable to attend the conference; I would love to hear any details if you did...

Have a restful weekend.

PANTS ON FIRE

It appears I am a liar, liar, pants on fire. My previous post on rock, paper, scissors' office was actually their old location. (Thanks, Bruce! My apologies.) This is their new office space in Santa Monica. Are you checking out the rad exterior graffiti!?!

View their new office on feed or on Bruce Bonlander's site.

Ya, so, I'm gonna need one of those orange powder-coated tables with Eames chairs, too.

SPACIOUS

Carr Design Interiors Residential 6I must have something for the Aussies right now. I keep finding so many inspiring companies down under, but you know I have a special place in my heart for floor-to-ceiling bookcases. This built-in with a ladder, and the art collection that surrounds it, was too beautiful not to post. Carr Design stole my heart with their Melbourne residential project, Harold and Weekly Times Loft. Also, you really should check out their corporate project section. If you like high-gloss and bright colors, you are going to freak when you see images from BOSS Space Awards...Carr Design Interiors Corporate 1Carr Design Interiors Corporate 2Carr Design Interiors Corporate 3

POOLSIDE

For those of you busy bees that couldn't link to architect Bruce Bolander's work, I thought I'd post one of his many admirable residential projects I mentioned earlier: Carter poolhouse and the Carter home. Oh, and I forgot to mention his fantastic furniture designs, too!

ROCHAMBEAU

Rock Paper Scissors edittingBruce Bolander Architect, Los Angeles 1The über talented editors at rock, paper, scissors (did I just write, über?) teamed up with architect Bruce Bolander to create their office space. (note: this is actually their old office space... their new office space is posted above. Shoot, I wish I could snatch up this one!) Great colors, mixed materials and textures, exposed ducting and structural beams have to spark the creativity of the team at rock, paper, scissors. I know it would be for me. Well, really all of the work by Bruce Bolander would, especially the Carter home and poolhouse. CLEANLINESS

This is the best looking dry cleaner I have ever seen. KAA Design Group does it again… I wish I lived closer so I could CLEAN MY STUFF THERE.KAA Design Group, based in Los Angeles, is a comprehensive design firm that offers their creative services in architecture, landscape, graphics and interiors. I can’t encourage you enough to go and check out their website (flash or html).

4PLI

Plywood never looked so good. I love the innovative furniture from architectural design firm 4•pli. Embracing the plywood layers and utilizing them in the design and pattern of the pieces, 4•pli seems to have mastered this material. Look at the fabrication of Little Giant Food & Drink where the above chair was designed… all those interlocking pieces make quite a puzzle.

LIGHT

I have been wanting to share the interiors of Rabih Hage for sometime and since “interior design” is leading the poll (see right), it seemed fitting. Hage, originally trained in Paris, utilizes his architecture background to enhance each space through proportion, light, texture. I appreciate much about his work, but especially his support and display of young, up-and-coming artists. Make sure to view the gallery, art&design and design studio sections for all kinds of goodness; I lost hours, but it was well worth it!

COMPOSED

I have always wanted to be a photographer. I inherited my grandfather’s old 35mm SLR and, although, I definitely didn’t master it, it did make me appreciate those who have. Like Michael Moran. His portfolio displays the interiors and exteriors he is shooting so thoughtfully. The light and composition create an overall mood and emotional response as you gaze into them. (It doesn’t hurt that he is shooting some of the best structures and spaces I’ve ever seen!) Make sure to check out the talented architects he has worked with... pretty sure I’m going to have to post about some of their other work in the near future.

CHROMATIC { 2 }

Ghislaine Viñas has blessed us with an amazing glimpse into one more project: a TriBeCa apartment. When she emailed me these, I was so excited to share them. Are you looking at the seating… light fixtures… wall art??? I love everything about them. Thank you, Ghislaine!

CHROMATIC

Speaking of yellow… this gold wall caught my eye, not to mention countless other features that designer Ghislaine Viñas showcases in her amazing portfolio of work. Her impeccable use of form and color is apparent in each space. “Color excites me. As a child, I would feel a rush of excitement when opening a box of crayons and seeing all the colors interact and relate. I still feel the same excitement when I see colors come together in a room.” That describes her work well… the relationship and interaction of color. (P.S. How much do I wish I was posting this blog from that office!?!)

HEAVEN...

One look at these images (by photographer Greg Delves) and you’ll see why; Stephen Roberts inc. portfolio is stunning. As the project slideshow progresses you are drawn more and more into each space. The clean lines and perfect placement of the elements are highlighted through the minimal approach. There seems to be a rhythm from the subtle use of color, texture and line. Glorious.
